Women's Work
The Fikso Family Center opened its doors on September 23, 2003. This 14,000 sq. ft. facility holds approximately 60 women and children. There are 3 lounging areas, a full service laundry room, a commercial grade kitchen, a children's arts and crafts room, study hall, a prayer room, a recreation center, a library, a large dining room, an outside play area with a playground, and 3 offices. With the exception of the new residents'/single women with no children room, our rooms are arranged to allow for mothers and children to live together. There are two larger rooms designed for husbands and wives to live together with their children. It took just over 4 years of planning, building and fundraising to complete this Center.
The total cost of this facility was over $1,800,000. All of this was provided by the Grace of God through private foundations and the caring citizens of Josephine County and beyond. Located at 530 SW Foundry in Grants Pass, Oregon, the Fikso Family Center is a giant step forward in the process of providing dignity for those who are broken. It is a place where those broken can be mended by the power of God through Christ Jesus' sacrifice and resurrection. Praise GOD!
The Fikso Family Center provides a place of safety, and sobriety. It is designed to be a home, not just a housing facility! We like to say that we have one big family living under the same roof. This is a place where the Word of God is taught, and used to counsel in everyday life. It is a beacon of hope for the homeless women and children of our community.
The policy for homeless children under the age of 18 is a bit different. We are allowed to house minors for 24 hours. If a minor wants/needs to stay with us they must either be legally emancipated or they must have their parent or legal guardian transfer guardianship to the Gospel Rescue Mission. If you know of a child who is homeless you may contact the women's coordinator Renee at 541-474-7774.
Would you like to have a tour of the Center? If so, you can call Evan, our PR/Development Director, at 541-659-7878 and arrange a time. You can witness many of the glorious blessings that our loving God has lavished upon us.
